Joint Stiffness
Joint stiffness is associated with many conditions and effects many people as they get older. It is defined as ‘the discomfort after a period of inactivity and a decreased range of movement in a joint’.

- Joint trauma/injury
- Sitting for prolonged periods
- Cold & damp conditions
Physical signs
Physical signs of joint pain may be; swelling, redness and warmth over the painful joint.
Treatment of joint stiffness
- Taking anti-inflammatory medicines
- Warm baths
- Massage
- Light exercise like walking and swimming can help keep the joint mobile and help prevent ‘stiffening up’
- Nutritional supplements are available which may help maintain healthy joints
